Battle of the Bands – Contestant Update

today31 May 2023

Background

Hey!

Battle of the Bands is fast approaching so we’re emailing all the contestants to let you know some further details about the competition and to request a bit more information.

Battle of the Bands will be taking place on the 24th of June from 7pm onwards in Barker House Farm. It will be following on from Lancaster University Students’ Unions Society and Media Awards which will be taking place from 5pm-7pm on the same day.

We’re excited to announce that the 1st place prize will be a 4-hour session at a professional recording studio in Manchester.

If you’ve not been to Barker House Farm before, the mazemap link is here.

As of now, we’ve got 8 entries into the competition. The format will be:

  • Each act performs two songs (up to a maximum combined length of 7 minutes)
  • Once all acts have performed, there will be a short intermission and the public will be able to vote using an online form.
  • The final score of each act will be calculated using both the judges’ vote and the public vote.
  • After the intermission, the winner will be announced as the Band of the Year and then they will have an opportunity to play another song (preferably one pre-prepared but that is not on your set list).

Note: Your setlist needs to be radio-friendly as we will be broadcasting live on the radio – this means you can’t include songs that have swear words or need to not sing these words. If you are unsure about any words, please get in contact.

Please fill out the Google Form below to give us the most up-to-date information about your band – we will be reaching out again before the competition to confirm details surrounding rehearsal and kit drop-off on the evening of the 23rd of June so, please keep this date free.
